Capping: A durable and stylish solution
Capping not only enhances the look of your home but also protects wood from rot. I take great care to ensure that every installation is built to last.
Thickness
I use heavy gauge aluminum. There are two gauges of material: heavy gauge and regular. I have measured both with a micrometer, and the difference is negligible. Also the weight is very similar, the heavy gauge is only slightly heavier. The difference seems to be in the alloy. The brand I use is much stronger despite being the same thickness. If you’re still curious, I can explain more in person.
Style
Capping is available in both Smooth and Embossed (woodgrain texture) finishes. I highly recommend the woodgrain style for posts and beams. Crank out windows I recommend smooth as the tolerances are tighter. Basically, the larger the profile with wider distances between bends, the more I recommend embossed

Sealant
I use a premium, high-quality caulk that won’t dry out, harden, or crack. Like all sealants, it can collect dirt over time, but it outperforms all other brands in durability. If removal is ever necessary, it pulls away cleanly without leaving residue.
